Elephants at the Waterhole

I have just completed this small drawing, using animals taken from various reference photos and using Photoshop combined them into a pleasing composition.
Size: 12.5 x 4.5
Support: Mellotex paper
Pencils: Mechanicals: 3B 3MM and HB 0.5mm and a 6B woody for the darks.

Here are a few stages in it's development, starting with the completed drawing.

  1. Lovely pencilwork Bev. Who doesn't like elephants? Love the size/composition also as it stands out from the normal portrait/landscape views

I'm not getting much artwork done just now as we're in the final throes of house repairs/decorating and everything is a bit frantic ... can't wait to get back to normal and settle down with the pencils again!

    1. Hi Sue, Thanks, I found a very old frame in a sort of black and silver antique look and thought it would suit a graphite drawing very well, and so the size and shape was decided for me, but I do like these long narrow shapes anyway.
At least there is light at the end of the tunnel now Sue...cant believe how long it's taken you to sort out your house problems.

    1. Hi Lesley, I love graphite also and always mean to use it more often but I get sidetracked with coloured pencils....which I love too. In fact there are times I wish there were more hours in the day to try out other mediums, there are so many I want to give a go, but run out of time....aaah well, life gets in the way sometimes :-(
